What would you like to do after your gymnastics career ends?.. be a coach?...off to college?.. Zack, 16, England
After I retire from gymnastics, I have not yet decided what I will do, but I will need to complete my secondary education, and then would like to perhaps be involved in the sporting industry somewhere, e.g. sports management/sports marketing.

I have quite a few friends in aerial skiing, and I like to ski when I have some spare time, but am not sure at this stage if it is something that I will do.

How are you doing in your education? Kathy, USA
I have been doing well in my education, and my school has been very supportive, but this year which is Year 12 I am doing one subject by Distance Education, as being an Olympic year it is very difficult to have time to go to a regular school.

Thanks Sarah for your encouragement and support, I appreciate it very much. Sarah Lauren was a very successful gymnast, but as far as I know she decided to move on from her sport, which athletes choose to do at different times in their careers.

Yes Tam, gymnastics can be a tough sport at an elite level, but I do it because I love it and it is a challenge, and you have to be organised to fit in many hours of gym each day. Stephanie

Aideen, I remember when I was learning kips, I just kept trying and practising and listening to my coaches, and then eventually I got it right one day. Stephanie

Michelle, in our teams we were always encouraging and supporting each other, and working hard together to make a successful team. We were very excited to get the medals at Commonwealth’s and Worlds.

So far in my gymnastics career I have achieved most of my goals, but there are still some more to be accomplished, such as hopefully making it into the Australian team for the 2004 Olympics this year!

Thanks Caren for your question about gymnastics. I don't think that it matters that you have smaller biceps than some other people, just keep working on your strength and do the best that you can!

I'm a national level trampolinist. Do you have any ideas on how to improve my stomach strength? Jessie, 14, Australia
Hi Jessie, I hope you enjoy your trampolining, but as I am not sure about your program I can let you know that in our training we do a strength program every day, as well as an additional 2 sets of sit-ups every day. So maybe if you just start doing a couple of sets of sit-ups a day this will help you.

Do you spend all your time in the gymnasium or do you do other things like weights and swimming? Jessie, 14, Australia
Thanks Jessie, we do spend a lot of time in the gym, about 32 hours a week, this includes a strength and flexibility program every day. I like to go swimming in my spare time for fun.

Hi Meagan, I'm good thanks. My training is going really well at the moment. I am adding an Arabian double front to my floor routine and am learning a new vault also. Lauren is doing really well, has improved heaps and is looking great.

Thanks Rechelle for your question about being a gymnast. I think the best part at my level is being able to travel and see other parts of the world that I wouldn't normally see otherwise. Also I have made many friends through gymnastics, and our Australian teams are very close and supportive to each other. Stephanie

What are your current start values? and what is your ultimate goal in gymnastics? Naomi, Australia
Thanks Naomi for your question about my start values. On Vault I am learning a new Vault, however at the moment my start value is 9.4. On Bars it's 9.9, Beam 10, and Floor 9.6. I am working on new skills to upgrade them all to 10. My ultimate goal is to compete at the World Championships and the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
